The four mission components guide the development of curriculum as well as the evolution of the EPS culture. Founded in 2002, Eastside Prep was re-accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) in January 2019. Eastside Prep has grown from 17 students in 2003-2004 to a projected total of 540 students for 2025-2026 academic year.
Position Summary: Promotes student success by providing both responsive and preventative support services for students in grades 5 – 12 on matters relating to social-emotional well-being and mental health. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Well-Being and works as a member of a team to guide the development and implementation of programs and practices related to students’ social, emotional, and personal growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The School Counselor supports students, grades 5 – 12 and their families in the context of the educational mission of Eastside Preparatory School. Providing this support requires that the School Counselor:
- Provide short-term, solution-focused, and strengths-based counseling to students in one-on-one-and small group settings.
- As a member of the Well-Being Team, work collaboratively with school leadership, faculty, and staff to coordinate support for students.
- Commit to creating a full sense of belonging for all community members through work in Equity, Inclusion and Compassionate Leadership (EICL is the school’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
- Design and facilitate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons with Grade-Level Coordinators.
- Consult with families about adolescent emotional development and mental health.
- Provide referrals to therapists and other community providers of mental health and support services.
- Connect with students’ mental health providers to support ongoing treatment plans during the school day.
- Incorporate best practices in trauma informed care.
- Maintain student records related to mental and emotional health.
- Serve as a grade-level advisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expert level understanding of adolescent mental health
- Knowledge of different tools used in school counseling
- Ability to collaborate effectively with different members of the community
- Excellent communication skills
Credentials and Experience
- Minimum MA in Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Mental health license (e.g., LMHC, LMFT, LICSW) preferred
- Three years related experience, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Compensation
- Our competitive annual salary range is $80,000 to $95,000, based on experience.
